How Do Strong Winds Damage My Roof?

We experienced some extremely high winds over this past weekend and into this week across mid-Missouri! Strong winds can wreak havoc on your roof and it's important to always check your roof for damage after a storm occurs. Today, our roofing company at the Lake of the Ozarks has a few things for you to consider after a bad storm!

How Does Wind Affect My Roof?

High winds typically don't affect your roof evenly. Generally, you will see damage at the edge of your roof because wind pressure is much stronger on the perimeter of your roof.

During high periods of wind, shingles may start to lift and split apart and in some cases fly off your roof! If you notice that your roof is missing any shingles don't wait to call your trusted roofing company at the Lake of the Ozarks because leaving your roof exposed to the elements can cause serious damage to the interior of your home.

In addition to the wind itself damaging your roof, wind can also carry things such as tree branches, leaves, glass, dirt, and other items that can cause major damage to your roof!

How Do I Know if my Roof is Damaged?

There are many signs to watch out for in regards to roof damage caused by a heavy wind storm. Check your roof for the following:

  • Loose shingles
  • Split shingles
  • Shingles that are curled up
  • Loss of granules

  1. Slip and fall accidents are often far more dangerous than they sound, and some of the most dangerous slip and falls happen on the job. If a slip and fall accident at work leaves you injured, don’t delay consulting with an experienced Los Angeles personal injury attorney.
    Workplace Hazards

The National Safety Council (NSC) shares some illuminating statistics related to falls on the job, including all of the following:

Falls are the third most common cause of fatal accidents overall. They are the leading cause of death in specific industries.

Nearly 700 workers died in falls from higher to lower levels (such as off ladders, stairs, or scaffolding), and more than 130 workers were killed in falls that occurred on the same level in 2016.

In 2016, more than 48,000 workers were injured seriously enough in slip and fall accidents on the job to require taking time off from work.

Construction is the most at-risk industry for fatal falls from heights (by a factor of seven). Still, even desk jobs can lead to dangerous slip and fall accidents.
