Why is that?  How did the concept for fireworks begin and why do we have them on these holidays? It is thought that as early as 200 B.C., the Chinese had already stumbled upon the first type of firecracker, roasted bamboo. Due to its hollow air pockets, bamboo explodes with a bang when heated. Sometime between 600-900 A.D., Chinese alchemists created an early form of gunpowder.
