What You Need To Know About Roofing Warranties

Purchasing a new roof is a big investment, and you're going to want to make sure its protected with a warranty. Not all roofing warranties are the same, but there are some general things you should keep in mind when choosing a quality product for your roof. Your Lake of the Ozarks roofing company is here to explain a few things you should know about roofing warranties.

Warranty Coverage

Roofing material warranties only cover issues such as wind resistance, algae resistance and those problems caused by manufacturing defects. They don't cover the general wear and tear on your roof from over the years. Keep in mind that the life of your roof is dependent upon several factors including the environment and climate, proper installation, and the quality of your home's insulation and ventilation. Just because the shingle says "30 year" warranty, doesn't mean that it's going to last that long. However, many roofing contractors at the Lake of the Ozarks will offer additional warranties on their services. Talk to your roofer about warranty options before you make any decisions for your project.

Understanding Your Warranty

Make sure that you understand the details of your warranty coverage. Like mentioned above, warranties will vary from product to product and contractor to contractor. Take the time to actually read the manufacturer's warranty and discuss warranties on installation with your roofing contractor. Not all roofing issues will warrant a roof replacement at the Lake of the Ozarks. For example, warranties that have algae coverage could provide compensation in the form of cleaning the affected shingles, rather than replacing them. You should also be aware of the type of language used in the warranty. Sometime the wording is vague, making it hard for you to make a claim. For algae coverage, the warranty may state "significant staining," but who determines what is considered significant? For wind damage, there can be limits on wind speed, and it may be hard to prove that the wind speed was less than the limit.
