How to Avoid Roof Damage from Tree Limbs

One of the most common types of damage to a roof is from those beautiful trees in your yard.... Now we are not suggesting that you cut them all down to save your roof.  We love their natural beauty and the shade they provide our home in the summer.  However, having trees near your home make it likely that your roof could suffer some damage.

Overhanging tree limbs can scrape the surface of your roof and damage its top protective top layer. Once the top layer has been damaged, you have exposed your roof to the elements which can eventually cause interior damage to your home.  Another hazard can be falling tree branches.  If a tree branch falls on your roof it is almost certain to cause damage to your roof.

So... what can you do short of bulldozing down every tree in your yard (which we do not recommend).  The solution is relatively easy.  Make sure all of your branches are trimmed that come within 6 feet of your roof.  This will ensure the branches are not scarping or falling on your roof and will also help prevent small animals from trying to enter your roof for spring nesting.
