4 Red, White and Blue Treats for 4th of July

The 4th of July holiday is filled with, family, fun, fireworks and of course...food! Having a BBQ is one of the most popular activities people participate in for the 4th of July. From hot dogs to hamburgers, watermelon to popcicles, this holiday weekend is quite the celebration. Your Lake of the Ozarks roofer has put togther a list of red, white and blue treats for you to try out at your 4th of July BBQ celebration this weekend!

Red, White & Blue Chex Mix

Ingredients: 
3 tablespoons butter or margarine
1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
3/4 teaspoon seasoned salt
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
4 1/2 cups Corn Chex cereal
2 cup pretzels
2 cups mini marshmallows
1 cup red and blue chocolate candies
1 pound white almond bark
Red and blue gel food coloring

Directions: 
1.  In a large microwavable bowl, microwave the butter uncovered until melted (about 30 seconds on high). Stir in the seasonings and then gradually stir in the cereal and pretzels until evenly coated.

2.  Microwave uncovered for 4 to 5 minutes on high, thoroughly stirring every 2 minutes. Spread on paper towels to cool (about 15 minutes). Stir in the mini marshmallows and chocolate candies.

3.  Divide the prepared Chex mix into 3 even portions and spread each portion in an even layer on a foil-lined plate or baking tray.

4.  Heat the almond bark in the microwave or in a double boiler until melted. Divide the almond bark into three equal servings. Color one serving with red gel food coloring, the second with blue and leave the third white.

5.  Drizzle each portion of the Chex mix with one color of chocolate. Then let it cool for at least 15 minutes, or until the chocolate returns to room temperature.

6.  When it's ready, toss together the three colors of Chex mix until combined, and serve.

JELL-O Frozen Freedom Pops 


Ingredients: 
1-1/3 cups boiling water, divided
1 pkg. (3 oz.) JELL-O Strawberry Flavor Gelatin
1 pkg. (3 oz.) JELL-O Berry Blue Flavor Gelatin
1 pkg. (3.4 oz.) JELL-O Vanilla Flavor Instant Pudding
2 cups cold milk

Directions:
1.  Prepare each flavor of gelatin as directed on the box. Then pour each flavor in separate 8 x 4 in. loaf pans, sprayed with cooking spray. Refrigerate for 1 hour or until gelatin is firm.

2.  Unmold the gelatin and cut into 1 inch cubes.

3.  Prepare the pudding mix as directed on the box. Then gently stir in the gelatin cubes.

4.  Spoon into 8 - 5 oz. paper cups. Insert wooden popsicle sticks in the center of each one. Freeze for 4 hours or until firm.

5.  Remove the cups and enjoy!

Brownie and Berries Dessert Pizza

Ingredients: 
1 box brownie mix
Water, vegetable oil and egg called for on brownie mix box
1package (8 oz) cream cheese, softened
1/3 cup sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla
2 cups fresh strawberries, sliced
1 cup fresh blueberries
1 cup fresh raspberries
1/2 cup apple jelly

Directions: 
1.  Heat oven to 350°F (325°F for dark or nonstick pan). Grease bottom only of 12-inch pizza pan with cooking spray or shortening.

2.  Make brownie batter as directed on the box and spread in the pan.

3.  Bake approximately 26 to 30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out almost clean. Cool completely (about 1 hour).

4.  In a small bowl, beat the cream cheese, sugar and vanilla with an electric mixer on medium speed until smooth. Carefully spread the mixture evenly over the brownie base.

5. Arrange the berries over the cream cheese mixture. Stir jelly until smooth and brush over the berries. Refrigerate about 1 hour or until chilled.

6. Cut into wedges and be sure to store it covered in the refrigerator.

Strawberry Blueberry Cream Smoothies

Ingredients: 
Red Layer:
  • ¾ c. milk
  • 1 c. fresh strawberries
  • 1 tsp. honey
  • handful of ice cubes
White Layer:
  • ½ c. milk
  • 2 tsp. honey
  • handful of ice cubes
Blue Layer:
  • ½ c. milk
  • 1 c. fresh blueberries
  • 1 tsp. honey
  • handful of ice cubes

Directions: 

1.  Put all ingredients for the red layer in a blender and blend. Pour equal amounts into a two large glasses or 4 small glasses. Put the glasses in the freezer for 10 minutes.

2.  Put white layer ingredients into the blender and blend. Remove the glasses from the freezer, pour equal amounts into the glasses and return to freezer for 10 minutes.

3.  Put blue layer ingredients into the blender and blend. Remove glasses from freezer, add the blue layer. They are ready to serve!
