4 Tips to Prepare for a Residential Roof Replacement

While getting a new roof at the Lake of the Ozarks can be an exciting experience, it also means some changes for your family. Once the roofing company at the Lake of the Ozarks arrives, your home becomes a work zone. Use the tips below to help prepare your home for their arrival.

1. Consider Your Family.

If you have children and/or pets, you want to think about how to keep them safe during the construction. Loud noises may increase anxiety or affect nap time. In addition, work zones are unsafe for children and pets. Be sure to let your children know what areas of the home or yard will be off-limits until the roof replacement is complete. You may even feel more comfortable sending the kids to grandma and grandpa's for they day while construction is underway.

2. Move Your Vehicles.

Many of us are used to just parking in the driveway, but if you have a garage, be sure to pull your vehicles into it before the roof construction begins. You don't want dust and debris falling on your vehicles. If you don't have a garage, consider parking your vehicles somewhere safe, away from the house and the construction site. This will also allow more room for the contractors to get close to the home with their trucks and tools.

3. Protect Your Belongs.

Vibrations from hammers and other tools on your roof can travel through walls, especially if repairs to the roof deck are needed during the replacement. This can cause wall decorations, such as pictures to fall. You might consider removing these, as well as any decorative light fixtures, before construction begins. In addition, the movement on your roof can cause dust and debris to fall in your attic. If you have any valuables stored up there, be sure to cover them  with an old sheet or drop cloth for protection.

4. Remove Outdoor Furniture.

Take any outdoor items such as grills, patio furniture, lawn ornaments and potted plants inside; a garage or shed is the perfect place to store these until the roof replacement is complete. You want to keep these items a safe distance from the work area, and out of the way of your Lake of the Ozarks roofing contractors.
