Insufficient Ventilation Can Affect Your Roof

Image
Most homeowners are unaware of the damage that can be caused by poor attic ventilation. An astonishing 9 out of 10 homes in North America have improper attic ventilation. Our Lake of the Ozarks roofing company is here to explain some of the major roof damages caused by insufficient ventilation. How Attic Ventilation Works Attic ventilation refers to the constant flow of outside air through your attic. This ventilation serves two main purposes: During the winter, it is important for cold outdoor air to keep the attic cool. Otherwise, moisture from cooking vapors, showers, household appliances, etc. builds up in your attic and moistens the underside of the roof. When the moisture drips, it wets the insulation causing it to not perform as well. A warm attic can also lead to ice damming when snow or ice on the roof begins to melt. This can cause leaks in your home. Good ventilation will reduce the moisture before damage an occur.  During the summer, the natural air flow prevents

The Importance of Gutters

Image
As a Lake of the Ozarks homeowner , you probably don't think much about your gutters. However, understanding the importance of gutters may prevent costly home repair bills in the future. Gutters in proper working condition will funnel water off of the roof and away from your home. This protects your Lake of the Ozarks roof , siding, windows, doors and foundation from water damage. Many homeowners don't realize the damage that can occur when their gutters are clogged, leaking or broken. If your gutters are not functioning properly, rainwater runs off the roof of the house and collects on the ground near the foundation. Heavy rains that causes pools of water near your home can cause a multitude of problems. Gutter Protection Gutters functioning properly will protect your home from: Home and Basement Flooding Cracked / Damaged Foundation Infestations - Mosquitoes and other insects can breed in standing water.  Mold - Overflowing gutters create an environment for mold to

Spring Thunderstorms are Here

Image
While you should watch out for major weather events, something as simple as a thunderstorm can also affect an already faulty roof. Spring is here and has brought this rainy weather along with it. Here are some facts about Thunderstorms and how you can protect your Lake of the Ozarks roof  from further damage this spring! What is a Thunderstorm?  Thunderstorms are produced by a cumulonimbus cloud, usually producing gusty winds, heavy rain and sometimes hail. The basic ingredients used to make a thunderstorm are moisture, unstable air and lift. You need moisture to form clouds and rain, unstable air that is relatively warm and can rise rapidly, and you need lift from either fronts, sea breezes or mountains. Here are some fun facts about thunderstorms: Thunderstorms can occur year-round at all hours, but are most likely to occur in spring and summer during the afternoon and evening hours.   It is estimated that around 1,800 thunderstorms occur across our planet every day.  A t
